Psychedelic guitar, swaying rhythms and poetic saxophone lines — these four young musicians will take you on a journey through the "Open Jazz Chaloupé" of the Leo Geller 4tet.

Gathered around the leader's guitar and compositions, we find Fanny Bouteiller on double bass, Malo Thiery on drums and Jérémie Lucchese on tenor saxophone.

The band's ambition: to share music that is deeply researched yet accessible and poetic, aiming for something radiant and uplifting.

Their sound draws on a wide range of influences, from John Coltrane and Kurt Rosenwinkel to Fela Kuti and the Motian/Lovano/Frisell trio.

Every note is played with heart and guts.

Winner of the JazzContreBand competition and the Audience Award at the Jazz à Oloron Festival, and very active on the local and national scene, the project has already performed at Jazz à Vienne, the Cosmo Jazz Festival, the Rhino Jazz Festival and the Crescent Jazz Festival.

The new album « Love & Spirit » was released on October 9, 2026 on Fresh Sound New Talent — a prestigious Spanish label that has notably hosted artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel and Robert Glasper.

Biographies

Leo Geller

Leo Geller is a guitarist and composer based in Lyon. In love with the music of John Coltrane, he decided to devote his life to jazz and improvised music around the age of 19. He trained at the conservatories of Chalon-sur-Saône, Villeurbanne and Lyon, and studied with Gaël Horellou and Romain Pilon. Inspired by musicians like Kurt Rosenwinkel and Bill Frisell, he works to find a personal and sincere voice and sound.

Fanny Bouteiller

A native of the south of France, Fanny Bouteiller first picked up the electric bass at 16, back in high school. She earned an advanced diploma in contemporary music at the Nîmes conservatory, then moved to Lyon to broaden her network. There she trained with Jérôme Regard at the conservatory and with Isel Rasua in Cuban music at the ENM Villeurbanne, and was called into a number of highly eclectic projects. Today she continues to shape her double bass sound in classical music with Jérôme Bertrand at the Saint-Étienne conservatory.

Malo Thiery

Malo Thiery is a drummer based in Lyon. He started classical percussion very young at the Belfort conservatory and built up his experience in numerous bands before turning to jazz. His colorful style and wide range of influences pushed him to become increasingly creative in his projects, and it was by joining the jazz program at the Lyon conservatory in 2019 that he began to engage more deeply with the regional artistic scene.

Jérémie Lucchese

Jérémie Lucchese is a tenor saxophonist from the south-west of France. He moved to Paris in 2020 to join the jazz and improvised music program at the CNSM, graduating in 2023. After three years of musical exploration in the capital, he decided to bring together musicians he admired to play his music, releasing the EP « Essai pour l'imaginaire ». To describe his playing, the great Chris Cheek put it this way: a sustained, modern tenor sound, wide-ranging with deep, authentic sensitivity — incredible ease across the instrument's entire range.
